Title:

George E. D[?] letter to the Board of Supervisors of Sonoma County, California, 1913 July 28

Creator/Contributor:

Sonoma County (Calif.), Board of Supervisors,, correspondent.

Abstract:

Typewritten letter from a man expressing moral outrage about a venue in Monte Rio, California where there is an "...immoral dance adjoining to which is a saloon where young girls are being sold liquor." The letter writer goes on to complain about "... white slavers' prize fighters and other depraved wretches, which have been hounded away from San Francisco, and under the guise of College boys, seek the prey at a dance in Monte Rio annexed to the Tavern Hotel." He adds that his attention to this matter came about because his own sixteen-year-old daughter had been "... lured to the saloon by a supposed college boy whom I afterward found out to be a notorious character of the Tenderloin of San Francisco." He ends by threatening to complain to the federal authorities if the matter is not addressed properly by the board. Signed by the author (last name is mostly illegible).
